Final Exam WordPress post

I tried to make my story flow with the words as well as possible in the time allotted. My beginning shot sets the location.  My second shot shows the person the voiceover is describing. The third shot shows the subject to match the voiceover, then followed by a close-up. My next shot shows a guy putting on a hazard suit to match how the narrator is saying the stuff was hazardous. The next shot is showing a member of the crew working that the narrator is describing. The following shots, I thought were just good shots to end out with and kind of went with the narration still.

Storage Waste Collected

I chose to show the hazardous waste at the beginning of the footage to show the matched action. I then showed a guy who looked like he might be an inspector. Then, I showed a truck and a man who might relate to the waste. I showed the title of the place when talking about the permit. I showed a container and the county crews to match the video. Lastly, I showed the containers.

For all the footage, I took a bit of the filmed footage for each subject the voice over talked about.

My Final Video

The reason I chose these particular segments, was because I felt like with the narration that was used each piece matched well with the footage. I think it is key for the video and audio to coincide appropriately and I feel like that is what this particular clip does.

Hazardous Waste Video Final Project

I chose these clips for the Hazardous waste video because I think they complimented the voice over. I made sure I showed the person that was investigating the storage units was shown looking at the hazardous material. I also made sure I had plenty of wide shots and close ups or the hazardous waste included in the sequence.

I wanted the viewers  to see what the hazardous material looked like and the process the investigators went through in order to remove it. Also I made sure I showed the investigator not being able to get ahold of the person who was in trouble for having the hazardous waste.

The sequence I used shows how important it is to make sure storage units should be cleaned out, and shouldn’t include hazardous waste, because there could be consequences.

Final Exam Video Assignment

I decided to use the video segments that I selected because I felt they best fit the audio. The opening video serves as an establishing shot of what the story is about. It is also, to me, a visually appealing opening shot.

I then used the “say dog, see dog” method when talking about the city building inspector, so I showed the video of him in his car.

Again, I used “say dog, see dog” to show the storage units, and then the container with a hazardous material label to emphasize the hazardous nature of the products.

The hazmat video was used in sequence with the hazmat team section of the audio. Then I followed with a close up shot of one of the containers to segue into the video with the moving van, to emphasis the ‘moving deadline’ and ‘large fine’ audio.

Hazardous Waste

The opening line is: “Some local residents might be in some deep manure over fertilizer storage.” For this audio, I paired video of a cop in his cop vehicle due to the person being in trouble.

I then left a clip of natural sound and raw image of a worker removing the waste.

The following audio clip is describing how dangerous the waste is, so I showed an image of the actual waste containment and a worker removing it in front of caution tape; demonstrating how harmful it is.

Then the video talks about how workers had to make sure that no leaks of the waste had leaked into the air. For this audio, I paired a worker investigating and a brief shot of caution tape blowing in the wind to symbolize clean air.

Lastly, the video describes the resident not being able to be reached, so I showed a close up of the actual facility sign. The audio finally says that the owner has a deadline to move the waste to an approved facility, so I showed video of a worker physically moving the waste.

Hazardous Waste Found

The story was about hazardous fertilizer and chemicals found in a storage facility. Although all the collected b-roll did not match the story, I tried to match the script as best as I could. I also tried to implement the hazardous cans, because that is vital to the story.

For my video, I used seven different shots to tell my story. I used an establishing shot of the sign that indicated the company’s name and location. I then cut to an Environmental Protection agent talking on the phone looking at the facility. For the rest of my shots, I chose to use ones of the hazardous material in question and where it was located. I also used a shot showing the hazmat crews inspecting the materials.

I arranged my video in the order I chose because I felt the images in this sequence displayed the danger the chemicals posed to the surrounding environment. The image of the grassy area being taped off also showed the environmental danger.

The image of the guy on the phone, and the person in the hazmat suit displayed the urgency of the entire video. The images of the leaking containers also showed the disregard of the owner for their storage unit.

Why I chose my segments

For my video, using FinalCut Express, I selected the segments of the video that best illustrated what was being said in the audio. I chose clips that showed the authorities taking away the chemicals, as well as clips of the containers. I started the video out with the sign of the plant being investigated to give some background for the audience. I then showed a variety of clips of the different containers, and also showed authorities dressed in white suits taking away the chemicals to have them tested. I tried to place these different clips in alignment with what was being said in the audio so it narrated a story. I also showed caution tape and a man taking away more chemicals to conclude my video to show that the containers were being examined.
