My History: Kayla Conboy

I was born in Las Vegas on Valentine’s Day of 1993. I lived in Las Vegas for a couple of years when my family and I moved to Phoenix, Arizona. I don’t remember much of either place because we shortly moved to Iowa. I didn’t mind moving around a lot when I was younger, in fact, I actually liked it. After a few years in Iowa we moved to Indianapolis where we stayed for 4 years. After living in Indiana, we moved to Stephenville, Texas where I started and finished high school. When it came time for me to look at colleges, I wasn’t really sure where I wanted to go. I looked into Oklahoma University and I really enjoyed the campus, but when I came to visit Texas Tech, I knew it was the place I wanted to be. Don’t get me wrong, Lubbock is Lubbock, but I love Tech’s campus and the friendly atmosphere here. I am a journalism student, hoping to one day work for an international news company. I would love to investigative work, and I hope that I get the chance to make that dream come true one day. If I do get to break into the international field of journalism, I would want to work in Europe, specifically Spain or Belgium.

Traveling every chance I get

As soon as I was born, I started traveling. My mom would travel for work and she would take me with her. When my parents divorced, I started flying across the country by myself to visit him and his family. I used to love airplanes and the thought of flying thrilled me, but as I’ve gotten older the destination is what I love. I went to Europe when I was 18 and I fell in love with the different cultures. I keep waiting for the day I can go back. I would love to work internationally one day so that I can live in Europe. Besides Europe, I’ve traveled all over the United States and I’ve been to Mexico and Canada. I haven’t had a chance to go to South America, but I hope that the opportunity arises someday soon.

Adding a video: David Talley

Here I’ve added a YouTube video of some British professional cyclists playing around on the trails. Someday, I’d like to be as good as they are.

My History: David Talley

Disclaimer: Not my rabbit.

Disclaimer: Not my rabbit.

My first home was in North Richland Hills. I lived there until I was 3 years old. I don’t remember a whole lot about that house. I know it had a sunken living room, there was a pool table somewhere, and our driveway was a long gravel road, which met Davis Boulevard. In 1996, Davis Boulevard began undergoing renovations and widening. The state of Texas declared that our home fell under “imminent domain” and we had to move away. The lot where our home was is now a KMart parking lot. We moved to Decatur, Tx to be closer to the rest of my father’s family. One of my favorite toys growing up was Legos. I spent many hours each day building legos. This earned me the title “King of Legos” in elementary school. I started spending more time with my peers after I finished elementary school. I joined the local Boy Scout Troop and started playing trombone in the middle school band. I continued these activities into high school, while adding debate and competitive swimming. These extracurricular activities culminated my senior year. I reached the rank of Eagle Scout, won regional 3A swimming, and attended nationals in Lincoln-Douglas Debate.

Racing and Riding Bicycles

I started mountain biking when I was 11 years old. My dad would drive me to nearby trails after school and I’d spend the afternoon on them. Them more I rode, the more I wanted to ride. Each time I rode the trails, I’d try a new technical section as my confidence built. My family started making weekend trips to trail systems all over the state. In place of usual beach-style vacations, we went to Utah, the mountain bike capital of the United States. In college, I became active with the Outdoor Pursuits Center. I went with them on a trip to Palo Duro Canyon, one of Texas’ most famous trail systems. Realizing these trails were within driving distance only served to fuel my interest in the sport. I became friends with several local bike shop employees who convinced me to race with them in Palo Duro. In the days leading up to the race, they all dropped out. I decided to participate in the race alone. I placed third. My placing in the race increased my confidence level, so I joined the Texas Tech Cycling Club. I raced almost every weekend with the team. After a year, I became the club’s president.

Web Lab 3B

For this assignment I got some highlights from the Tech- OU game in 2011 and 2013, I chose to look at the 2011 game because it was a big deal when Tech won after a 39 game wining streak at home for OU who was ranked 3 at the time and an unranked Tech.

When editing the video I learned how important it is to have smooth transitions between interview subjects. The
