Web Lab 3B

For this assignment I got some highlights from the Tech- OU game in 2011 and 2013, I chose to look at the 2011 game because it was a big deal when Tech won after a 39 game wining streak at home for OU who was ranked 3 at the time and an unranked Tech.

When editing the video I learned how important it is to have smooth transitions between interview subjects. The

Web Lab 3b – Bryan Navarette

For this assignment I chose my Dollar General story. The story is about a scam that was happening at Dollar General.  For more details see video. When I began this project I did not know how to use Adobe Premiere.  I began messing with the software outside of class on my home computer, and I feel that I can use it effectively.  On site I shot from different angles and tried to get customers shopping, as well as cashing out. I then uploaded all my media to Premiere and began to sort through what I needed and what would strengthen my story.  After a couple of hours of cutting, pasting and dragging, I had what I needed.  I recorded my voiceover and added it to my project.  I then uploaded my video to YouTube.  From there I copied the URL to WordPress and posted.

This video was about a hiking trip that was being hosted by the Outdoor Pursuit Center at Texas Tech. When making this video I learned how to use a tripod as well as a lapel mic. I was also able to practice my interviewing skills.

The best part about making this video is that it gave me the opportunity to work with Adobe Premiere, most of my video editing experience has come from Final Cut so it was nice to experiment with a different editing software.

Web Lab 3b: Curves Workout Facility

Curves workout facility is a women’s only gym in Lubbock, Texas. Curves has always had a reputation of being for older women, but owner Pattie McMillan is trying to change that!

Jeff Bunnell’s Video

For this video, I tried to capture the small community of Raiderland, camp for Tech’s devoted football fans. The first few days of shooting video were underwhelming When I got there, the designated area was cut in half and there were only a few tents being pitched, so my shots seemed dull. To make up for this, I tried to make the introduction more upbeat, a build-up that I think falls flat once my sick, nasally voice comes in. At least my editing improved.

Units cause hazard

I chose to begin with the police officer calling in an emergency to get the audience interested in the story and to show the “local”county. I then chose the caution tape in front of tires to show that this could happen anywhere in the city. That scene could be seen anywhere in any town. Now that the audience is invested, I decided to chose a close up of the storage facility in which the hazardous material was found to bring the story to where it occurred. Next I showed just how much waste was found as an establishing shot and to show the drama of the situation. Then I picked a close up of the fertilizer in the storage facility to show just exactly what was found. I then showed the waste in the storage units. Then I chose the man in the hazard waste suit removing the fertilizer to show when the narrator said “it is a hazardous substance” and the special containers. The man putting up the caution tape after that shows that they had to “investigate” to see if it was leaking. I showed the main checking the containers to show the “checking for ammonia released” narration. I then chose a medium shot of the containers stacked to put into context how there was so much found yet Trout was not able to reach the owner. I then showed the man going back into the unit to show “large fine” – there were multiple trips made in order to get it all out so that is where the fine is coming from. My ending shot is a moving truck to show it can be done, and give the audience the hope that the hazardous waste is moved and the community is safe once again.

Dangerous Hazerdous Chemicals Discovered (VIDEO)

The reason I edited my story the way I did is because I felt each clip fits into what the VO is discussing. I tried to make my video match my audio as closely as possible and the rest took care of itself. I used the blade tool to cut down the b-roll that was already recorded and used my best judgement as far as the order of the clips. The video was then resized for compatibility reasons. Dangerous Chemicals Final

I chose the scenes in this video to first show that it was someone local that people may know.  Then I showed the cop scene to help explain the importance of the situation.  I showed the people getting ready to go in and deal with the chemicals and putting on their masks.  Then I showed the “special containers” they chemicals are stored in to show the danger they can cause. I finished by showing the crew load the containers and the yard with the tape to warn people about the situation.

Final Video

This video was for my final exam in News Presentation. The clips I chose to use were ones that told a story in a logical order. For example when the audio mentioned the storage facility I put video of the storage sign.

JOUR 3310 Final Exam- Hazardous Waste

I selected to used the clips in my video because I thought those were the ones that matched the voice over and helped convey the story best. I thought the guy removing the containers in a hazmat suit was a good one to use cause it showed how severe this chemical is, and I also though the flammable sticker was a good way to show the severity of the situation.
